This spring, when we
were studying about plants needing rain to grow. In a spontaneous
learning opportunity, our class decided to go outside and experience
the full dimension of rain. We all took off our shoes and socks and
rolled up our pant legs. We slipped on our jackets so that our clothes
wouldn't get too wet, and out we went! Barefoot!
We ran through the
puddles in our bare feet...

We ran through the
grass in our bare feet...
We went into sand
with our bare feet...
We tipped our head
backwards and let the rain drops splash in our face and on our
tongue...
We tried to catch
raindrops in our hands...
We got quiet and
listened to the sounds of rain...
We took deep
breathes to smell the rain...
When we came back
in, I said to the students, "Oh, what will your parents think about us
going out in our bare feet in the rain?" Their reply? "It'll be okay,
Mrs. Vaage. We'll just tell them you were outside in your bare feet,
too!"
Then we came in,
dried off, and wrote poetry... The following poems will
illustrate the New Life we felt being refreshed by the spring rain.

Rain
Rain
was wet when it fell on me,
Rain makes me feel good because it is sweet.
Rain makes me feel happy too.
I really love rain.
I love the way it sounds,
I really love the rain.
Poem by Rachel Fenrich

Rain
I wanted to come.
I was so cold that I almost got frost bite.
We went outside without socks or shoes.
It was so wet that Max, Matthew, Christopher T. and M. and me
Almost got frost bite.
I did not want to go.
Rain, rain go away, little Tommy wants to play.
How it felt in my heart,
It felt good.
How it felt,
It felt cold.
How it hurt nothing,
That felt like it felt cold.
Poem by Ben Durnford

Rain, Rain Go Away
Rain smells like water.
Rain tastes like salt.
Rain feels like hard groups of water,
And what it feels like in our heart is joyful,
And looks like water.
Rain is fun to play in,
You get to splash in puddles.
You see it.
It looks like water.
Rain, rain go away,
Come again another day.
I love rain.
Poem by Micaela Amelio

Rain
Dance
I
was splashing in the rain.
Suddenly, I wanted to use my senses.
I used,
Touch,
Smell,
Taste,
Seeing,
Hearing.
The end.
Poem by Banon Devlin

The Rain
Rain, rain.
The rain tasted like water,
Fresh water.
And the sun was sleeping,
Just beautiful.
And the rain was falling,
Like lemon drops.
But it was not sleeping,
Like the sun.
And it was beautiful,
It felt like cold ice.
It felt like fluff on my hair,
Just like fluff.
Poem by Juliana Cunha

Rain
The rain felt very,
very cold.
I tasted the rain and it tasted very good.
I was splashing in the puddles.
My feet were very cold.
I really wanted to go inside, but we couldn’t
Come inside, It was dripping.
It smelled very fresh.
Everybody was screaming.
There are lots of puddles.
I stepped in one, it was deep.
It was very, very cold on my feet.
I was very thirsty, so I drank the rain.

It felt fun.
It smelled funny.

Rain, Rain Go Away
Rain is wet,
Rain is freezy.
It felt like nothing.
It tasted like water.
It sounded like this; tick, wick, tick, wick.
My heart felt like I never did before.
I heard children.
The end

Rain,
Rain Go Away
The
rain was cold,
But it was fun.
The grass was wet.
It tastes like water.
It felt like great drops of water.

I like the rain because it is fun.
I like watching the drops fall.

I Did Want To Come In
The
rain was very, very cold.
There are lots of puddles.
I like to splash in the puddles.
It felt very cold.
It tasted like strawberries.
It sounded like there was dice falling from the sky.
Poem by Emma Gibson

I
Wanted To Go In
I
smelled. It did smell like something,
But I do not know what it smelled like.
And it smelled like air.
And it was very cold,
But I did not mind very much.
It tasted like water on my tongue,
And it felt very cold on my feet.

Everyone said it was fun,
But at the end,
It was not fun.

And the children screamed and yelled.

The
Rain Is Dancing Today
The
rain is wet.
It tastes good.
It is squishy between my toes.
It was very cold.
It is white.
It is cool.
It is fun.
It was clear on the grass.
When we jumped into it, it sounded like drip-drop.
When the rain fell down it was like drip-drop.
It felt inside me, it felt good.
Poem by Macey Ritter

Rain
The
rain was cold.
It tastes like grass,
And it smelled like water.
And when I touched it,
It was cold too.
I didn’t want to come in.
The rain kept falling all the time.
My toes felt cold,
And it sounded like,
Chick, chick, chick, chick.
Boom, boom, boom,
Went the rain all day.
All day, all day.
And it looked like a whole, big puddle.

And I wished I was inside!
My eyes saw a drop.
